Qaund je suis arrivée au camp, la première semaine était assez difficile; je ne parlais pas beaucoup mais j’écoutais beaucoup. Pour moi, l’anglais était plus une matière qu’une langue comme le français. Je me suis faites facilement une amie avec la première fils que j’ai rencontré malgré la différence de langues. J’ai rapidement trouver que je savais plus que je ne pensais parce que j’étais obligée de parler en anglais.
Le premier jour, je me souviens que je ne savais pas où aller manger et j’étais forcée de dire en anglais, “Eat? Eat?” en mimant un couteau et une forchette.
Pour m’aider, j’ai pris English as a Second Language (ESL), ce cours m’a permis de me rencontre de ça. En voyant, beaucoup d’entre aide dans le camp ainsi que ce déclic (clique) très important, j’étais beaucoup plus à l’aise .
Maintenant, je sais demander, en anglais, “Where is the Dining Hall, what time is second bell, and what’s for dinner?” Je pense que c’est une très bonne expérience d’aller dans d’autre pays tout seul pour apprendre la langue, il n’y a pas mieux.

When I arrived at camp, the first week was quite difficult. I didn’t speak a lot, but I did a lot of listening. For me, English was more of a school subject than a language like French. I easily made friends with the first girl I met despite the difference in language. I quickly found that I knew more than I thought I did because I was forced to speak English. The first day I remember that I didn’t even know where to go to eat and I was forced to say in English, “Eat? Eat?” while I pantomimed cutting with a knife and fork.
To help improve my communication, I signed up for English As a Second Language (ESL) classes. These classes helped a lot. Everyone in the camp assisted me and my group of friends was especially supportive which made me much more at ease.
Now, I know how to ask, in English, “Where is the Dining Hall, what time is second bell, and what’s for dinner?!” I think it is a great experience for someone to go to a foreign country all alone to learn another language. There’s no better way.
